Within twenty years. The City's neighbourhood profile counts 1,605 occupied homes in 1996 and 4,265 in 2016, and the owner-occupied share rose from 40% to 71%. In 1996 more than half of its homes were in apartment towers; by 2016 most were detached houses on new streets. It stayed young, too: 28% of residents were under 20 in 2016 and the median age was 35.9.
The City's NeighbourGood London site describes the same shift. The southern part was built first, with 1970s and 1980s single-family homes, townhouses and apartment buildings, and the northern section is a subdivision of single-family homes with some newer townhouse complexes. One older survivor is on the City's heritage register: an 1890 Queen Anne house at 1186 Fanshawe Park Road East.
In 2016, 58% of homes were single-detached, 15% row houses and 24% apartments in buildings of five or more storeys, with a few low-rise units. The tower count barely moved after 1996, so nearly all the growth came as houses and townhouses.
Streets inside the district include South Wenige Drive, North Wenige Drive, Grenfell Drive, Stackhouse Avenue, Trossacks Avenue, Blackwater Road, Springridge Drive, Rollingacres Drive and, at the newest edge, Blackwell Boulevard and Ballymote Way. Condo townhouses are common in Stoney Creek; ask for the corporation's status certificate as a condition of your offer, and compare with every townhouse for sale in London.
The City lists the building at 920 Sunningdale Road East with a six-lane, 25-metre pool, a warm leisure pool with a moveable floor, a double gym, a 12,000-square-foot fitness centre, an indoor running and walking track, four community rooms and a full-service London Public Library branch.
Outdoors, Constitution Park at 725 Grenfell Drive has a spray pad, and the district also has Stephens Farm Park, Wenige Park, Forest Hill Park, Blackwell Park and several sections of the Stoney Creek Valley open space.
Two schools sit inside the boundary: Stoney Creek Public School (Thames Valley District School Board, 1335 Nicole Avenue, Kindergarten to Grade 8) and Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School (London District Catholic School Board, 1065 Sunningdale Road East), which the City lists as offering French Immersion. Confirm the school for a specific address with each board's locator, since boundaries change as new streets open.
London Transit buses connect Stoney Creek with downtown and the Masonville area; check LTC for current routes and times. NeighbourGood notes a large commercial plaza at Fanshawe Park Road and Adelaide Street. As the crow flies, Masonville Place is about 3.6 km from the middle of the district and Fanshawe College's main campus about 5.2 km.
South of Fanshawe Park Road is Stoneybrook, west of Adelaide is Uplands, and east of Highbury is the Fanshawe district.
Homes backing onto the Stoney Creek valley may sit near lands regulated by the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority, so check whether Ontario Regulation 41/24 applies before planning a pool or addition. On the newest streets, ask the seller for the home's age and any remaining new-home warranty coverage. If you are thinking of selling to move up within the area, a free home evaluation shows where you stand.

No. This Stoney Creek is a City of London planning district, and the creek itself runs through the valley parks here. Stoney Creek near Hamilton is a separate community.

Yes. About a quarter of homes in 2016 were in buildings of five or more storeys, concentrated in the older south end.
