Around 2011. The City's neighbourhood profiles have no figures for it before then, and that year the census counted 895 residents in 260 homes; by 2016 it was 1,740 residents in 530 homes, roughly double in five years. The median age in 2016 was 32, and nearly a third of residents (32%) were under 20.
Like the rest of London south of the Thames, this was Westminster Township land before the City's annexations.
In 2016, 83% of occupied homes were single-detached, 15% were row houses and the rest duplexes, with 88% owner-occupied. Middleton Avenue, Southbridge Drive and Bateman Trail are typical of the district's residential streets.
A few street names will sound familiar to anyone who knows Canadian art: Emily Carr Lane, Lismer Lane, Casson Way and David Milne Way. Arthur Lismer was one of the original Group of Seven, A. J. Casson joined the group in 1926, and Emily Carr is an artist associated with it. Paulpeel Avenue, also in the district, shares its name with Paul Peel, the figure painter born in London in 1860.
Families in Longwoods are served by the Thames Valley District School Board and the London District Catholic School Board. Check each board's school locator for the exact address.
Bateman Trail Park at 2875 Bateman Trail is the one City park inside the district, with parking, a minor baseball diamond, a mini soccer field, a play structure, a swing set and accessible paved paths. For bigger facilities, White Oaks Park and the South London Community Centre share 1119 Jalna Boulevard in the next district east, and the indoor South London Community Pool is at 585 Bradley Avenue.
Very close. Highway 402 ends at Highway 401 (at 401 exit 183) inside the district, and the 402's exit 100 serves Wonderland Road, which is also Highway 4. Both highways run along the district's southern end.
London Transit buses serve the edges of the district; check LTC for routes and times. White Oaks Mall at 1105 Wellington Road is about 2.3 km from the middle of the district as the crow flies.
If the house is recent, find out where it sits in its new home warranty. Tarion backs the builder's new home warranty, with coverage that runs in stages over the first year, the second year and years three to seven, and the Home Construction Regulatory Authority publishes the Ontario Builder Directory, where you can look the builder up. For a brand-new purchase, read the agreement's closing date and adjustment clauses with your lawyer.
If this is your first home, here's how the rest of the process works, and you can test a monthly payment before you book showings.

Longwoods is the name the City of London gives this planning district, one of the districts it uses to describe and plan the city.
No. Lambeth is its own City planning district to the southwest, and Longwoods borders it. Listings may still carry the broader London South label used on the MLS® System.
Yes. Row houses were 15% of homes at the 2016 Census. If a townhouse is part of a condominium, ask for the status certificate before you firm up an offer.
About 2.3 km as the crow flies from the middle of the district to the mall at Wellington Road and Bradley Avenue.
