The first settlement was a little south of today's village. John Getty built a log home in 1829 at the corner of the second concession and Adelaide Road, in a district known as the Plains, and the pioneer hamlet was called Hartford. When the Great Western Railway arrived in 1853 the village spread north along Adelaide Road to the tracks and took a new name. Brydges honours Charles J. Brydges, the railway's general manager, who chose the site; the Mount is less certain, either the village's position on the highest point of the line between Glencoe and Komoka or surveyor Colonel Roswell Mount.
By 1857 about 180 people lived here, and the station shipped cattle, logs, potatoes, grain and fruit. Mount Brydges became a police village in 1906. Museum Strathroy-Caradoc's walking tour covers the old core on Adelaide Road: the 1898 brick United Church at 22522, the Baptist Church at 22397 (dedicated 1867), the Anglican Church at 639 Bowan Street (1886) and the 1890 schoolhouse at 673 Wesleyan Street.
Almost all of them are detached houses. The 2021 Census counted 965 occupied private dwellings in the Mount Brydges population centre, 89.1% of them single-detached, and 84.6% of households owned their home. Condominiums are rare (about 20 households). The village also grew quickly: 2,117 people in 2016 became 2,656 in 2021, a 25.5% jump, and 16.4% of homes were built between 2016 and 2021, while 28.7% date from 1960 or earlier. The median age was 37.6, younger than Strathroy (44.4).
The Thames Valley District School Board runs Caradoc Public School on Bowan Street, a JK to Grade 8 school. The London District Catholic School Board also serves the village, and both boards' Strathroy high schools are on Second Street, about 12 km to the west as the crow flies. Use each board's locator to confirm the school for a given address.
Mount Brydges Lions Park on Lions Park Drive holds the Tri-Township Arena, a ball diamond and soccer field; Cenotaph Park has the Lions splash pad, and Legion Park has the Optimist skate park. The library branch at 22501 Adelaide Road stands where the 1870 township hall hosted dances, clinics and even the village jail until 1991. The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority runs Mill Stream Conservation Area at 22035 Gibson Road east of the village (toboggan hill and nature trail) and Longwoods Road Conservation Area at 8348 Longwoods Road, home of Ska-Nah-Doht Village and Museum.
Highway 402's Glendon Drive interchange (County Road 14) is signed for Mount Brydges and Komoka. Middlesex County Connect buses also serve the village; check the county's current routes and stops before you count on them for a commute.
Two things come up most. For a new build, ask where the subdivision sits in the approval process; Strathroy-Caradoc notes that plans of subdivision and condominium are filed with the municipality or Middlesex County's planning department. For any lot near a creek or woodlot, ask which conservation authority regulates it: the Lower Thames Valley authority manages conservation lands around the village, while the St. Clair Region authority covers the Sydenham side of the municipality. We can pull up what is for sale in the village now and flag these checks early, and a free home evaluation helps if you are selling first.

It is part of the same municipality. Mount Brydges and the town of Strathroy have both belonged to the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc since the 2001 amalgamation of the Town of Strathroy and Caradoc Township, but they are separate communities about 12 km apart as the crow flies.
The 2021 Census counted 2,656 people in the Mount Brydges population centre, up 25.5% from 2016.

Very few. Single-detached houses made up 89.1% of occupied dwellings in 2021, with small numbers of row houses and low-rise apartments.
Call Rob or George directly, or send a message and one of them will get back to you. A home evaluation is free and prepared by a person, never a formula.
